Viva Mexico! You’ve decided it’s time to book a vacation and Mexico sounds like a great idea. Perhaps you’re after the most delicious chips and guacamole, or maybe a refreshing margarita. Maybe you’re looking for the best all-inclusive family option. Or you’ve been dreaming of visiting a colonial city filled with history and rich in culture. No matter what you are looking for, there is a city for everyone in Mexico.
For the Foodie
Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, is a melting pot for several different cultures and cuisines. Offering everything from street foods to Michelin star restaurants, Mexico City is a destination to indulge in. The capital is famous for its food markets - the most visited food markets are Mercado de la Merced and Mercado de San Juan. For those looking for an upscale option, Pujol is consistently a top-ranking Michelin star restaurant that is not to be missed. The brewery scene is also worth checking out, and while the names Modelo or Corona may come to mind, Mexico City is home to several microbreweries that are well worth your time including Principia Tasting Room and Cerveceria Cosaco. Feeling overwhelmed? Leave it up to the experts and book a food tour. These are often led by locals and offer many different samplings of foods.
For the Influencer
Tulum has exploded with visitors in recent years. Often compared to Bali, the white beaches and crystal blue calm waters welcome you into paradise. Travel and fashion bloggers flock to Tulum to enjoy the arts, culture, and ironically, to unplug. In Tulum, you have to decide if you want to stay on the beach or in town. If you are searching for a more authentic visit, stay with the locals who typically live in town. You can always buy passes at one of the many Tulum Beach Clubs to enjoy a day by the ocean. For those looking to snorkel, pay a visit to the Gran Cenote. A cenote is a natural sinkhole surrounded by limestone and water. Don’t forget the go-pro camera because you’ll want to document every moment of this breathtaking experience.
For Families
Families are often drawn to Mexico because of the ease of flights and all-inclusive options. All-inclusive resorts make it so that you don’t have to leave the resort property. Your room, food, drinks, activities, and often childcare are included in the price. It’s a great way to vacation and truly relax without being concerned with how much you are spending. Most all-inclusive resorts have kids’ clubs, which are similar to onsite day camps. Their days will be filled with activities, games, and interacting with other kids at the resort while you can enjoy some relaxing spa or pool time.
Finest Playa Mujeres by Excellence Group – This luxury resort is a short 30 minutes from the Cancun International Airport. The rooms have a modern luxury feel to them, and even the pickiest of eaters will be able to find something they like at one of the ten different restaurants on site. They are known for their three kids’ clubs – mini, maxi, and teen, which include activities such as riding horses, tie dying shirts, and participating in interactive shows.
For the Adventurer
Those thirsty for adventure will have every thrill quenched in Quintana Roo. Hotel Xcaret is an all-inclusive cosmopolitan resort in Quintana Roo featuring the most popular eco-park in Mexico, Xcaret Park. You’ll have quick access to explore underground rivers, zipline through the Mayan jungle, catch the dolphin show or take in the beauty of the Mayan ruins.
Xplor is a park that offers amphibious vehicle rentals, giving you a chance to explore the different paths on your ATV that cover everything from bridges, jungle trails, and caverns. Dress casual though, because there’s a good chance you may get a little dirty on the trails.
Xenses offers activities to peak all five senses. The Xensatorium allows you to explore a completely dark cave, while the Xitric Garden is bursting with lemon trees. Take a walk through the garden and take in the lemon smell while enjoying a refreshing lemonade. Looking to relax? Float down the Riverlax, which is a salt water lazy river that winds through different caverns. The Sludgerie is another relaxing activity where you have the chance to slide into a huge natural mud pool. Don’t worry about getting too messy, you are able to rinse everything off at the end of your visit.
For the History Buff
If you are a history buff traveling to Mexico, a pitstop at one of the many pyramids is a must. There are several pyramids scattered throughout the country that were built by people of many different cultures. The pyramids are mostly made of similar materials, but all have very distinct styles.
Coba – Coba is two hours outside of Cancun and it is home to two large pyramids built by the Mayans. This site stands out because there are 16 sacred Mayan roads that lead to the main pyramid. The Nohoch Mul is the main pyramid. You can also visit the Conjunto Pinaturas, which is a designated spiritual area and the Macanxoc structure, which is a lagoon.
Chichen Itza – Chichen Itza is known as one of the largest Mayan cities and it is famous for its large pyramid. In the spring and fall equinox, the sun illuminates the pyramid and makes it look like there are snakes slithering along the steps. Next to the pyramid is the Templo de los Guerreros (Temple of the Warriors), which features hundreds of columns that are very ornate in detail. Finally, don’t forget to visit the largest ancient sports field in Central America, the great ballcourt.
